Editorial verdict
Grounded in published specifications
Summary verdict: About 3,000 pages against the TN730 at 1,200, for well under twice the money -- the high-yield cartridge is the cheaper page on almost every laser and this pair makes the point plainly. Brother separates toner from drum, so this cartridge contains no drum and the DR730 has to be budgeted separately at roughly every 15,000 pages. Brother does not lock cartridges by firmware, which is why compatible TN760 units exist and work, unlike the equivalent HP consumables.
Who should buy this
Brother HL-L2350, L2460 and MFC-L2820 owners printing more than a few hundred pages a month.
Who should avoid this
Very light users, for whom the smaller TN730 ties up less money on the shelf.
Key strengths
- About 3 cents a page, roughly half the standard cartridge
- No firmware lock, so compatible cartridges are an option
- Toner only, so the drum is not thrown away with it
Limitations
- The DR730 drum is a separate consumable to budget for
- Fits only the Brother 2000-series machines
- Yield assumes 5 per cent coverage, below typical office documents

Wrong product for my situation
Genuinely my own fault. Posting so somebody else does not repeat it. The listing says who should avoid this: Very light users, for whom the smaller TN730 ties up less money on the shelf. That was my situation and I ordered anyway. It does what it says on the page — it just was not the thing I needed.

Matched my use exactly
The page describes who this is for, and it described me: Brother HL-L2350, L2460 and MFC-L2820 owners printing more than a few hundred pages a month. On that basis it has been the right call. About 3 cents a page, roughly half the standard cartridge.

Happy with it, but go in informed
About 3 cents a page, roughly half the standard cartridge. The one thing to know before ordering: The DR730 drum is a separate consumable to budget for. To be fair that is written on the product page. I skimmed past it and had to rearrange things afterwards.
