Editorial verdict
Grounded in published specifications
Summary verdict: About 1,350 pages, which is small for a color laser cartridge, and it is only the black -- a full set of four costs roughly four times this. At about $90 that is near 6.7 cents a page for black alone, and the 206X high-yield version roughly halves it. These cartridges are chipped and the M255 and M283 families enforce it, so refills and most compatibles will be refused by the printer.
Who should buy this
Existing Color LaserJet Pro M255 or M283 owners replacing black only.
Who should avoid this
Anyone about to buy one of those printers without pricing a full toner set first.

Be ready for one thing — About 1
Leading with the problem, because it is what I would have wanted to read: About 1,350 pages, small for the price. Chipped, so refills and most compatibles are refused. Neither is hidden — both are listed on the page — but they matter more in daily use than they look on a spec sheet. I have kept it, for one reason: Original cartridge with the yield the printer was rated against. That still outweighs the rest, but only just.

Read the fit note, and it was me
The page describes who this is for, and it described me: Existing Color LaserJet Pro M255 or M283 owners replacing black only. On that basis it has been the right call. Original cartridge with the yield the printer was rated against.

Wrong product for my situation
Genuinely my own fault. Posting so somebody else does not repeat it. The listing says who should avoid this: Anyone about to buy one of those printers without pricing a full toner set first. That was my situation and I ordered anyway. It does what it says on the page — it just was not the thing I needed.

After a few months
Had this most of a year now, so this is not an unboxing opinion. Widely stocked, so replacement is rarely delayed. Still mildly irritated by one thing: About 1,350 pages, small for the price. Known trade-off rather than a fault, though, and I would buy it again.
