Editorial verdict

Grounded in published specifications

Summary verdict: The multi-function sibling of the HL-L2460DW, adding a 50-sheet feeder, a scanner and a fax for about a hundred dollars. Same cartridge family, so the same running cost applies: TN760 at about 3,000 pages is roughly 3 cents, and compatibles are not blocked. The feeder is single-sided, so scanning a two-sided document means running the stack through twice and collating it yourself.

Who should buy this

Small offices wanting laser output, scanning and a feeder without cartridge restrictions.

Who should avoid this

Anyone scanning two-sided documents in volume, who needs a duplex feeder.

Key strengths

  • No cartridge firmware lock, so compatibles work
  • 50-sheet document feeder
  • Automatic duplex printing at 36 ppm

Limitations

  • The feeder scans one side only
  • The drum is a separate consumable
  • Mono only

    Holding up so far

Had this two months now, so this is not an unboxing opinion. 50-sheet document feeder. Still mildly irritated by one thing: The feeder scans one side only. Known trade-off rather than a fault, though, and I would buy it again.

Bought it on the numbers, and the numbers were right

I compared four of these on paper before ordering, so the line I actually checked was "Cost per page". The page says About 3 cents on TN760, excluding drum and paper, and that is what turned up. No cartridge firmware lock, so compatibles work.

Three stars, and here is exactly why

Leading with the problem, because it is what I would have wanted to read: The feeder scans one side only. The drum is a separate consumable. Neither is hidden — both are listed on the page — but they matter more in daily use than they look on a spec sheet. I have kept it, for one reason: No cartridge firmware lock, so compatibles work. That still outweighs the rest, but only just.

Right product for the right person

The page describes who this is for, and it described me: Small offices wanting laser output, scanning and a feeder without cartridge restrictions. On that basis it has been the right call. No cartridge firmware lock, so compatibles work.
