Editorial verdict
Grounded in published specifications
Summary verdict: A refillable laser is an unusual thing and it exists for one number: a toner reload kit covers about 5,000 pages for around $50, which is roughly 1 cent a page. The toner is poured in from a bottle rather than clipped in as a cartridge, so there is no cartridge chip to block a refill -- the opposite of the Dynamic Security models beside it. The drum is a separate consumable rated around 50,000 pages, and unlike the toner it is a genuine replacement part with a genuine cost.
Who should buy this
High-volume mono offices that want laser output at ink-tank running cost.
Who should avoid this
Anyone printing in color, and anyone unwilling to handle loose toner.

Fine, once I adjusted my expectations
Leading with the problem, because it is what I would have wanted to read: Mono only. The drum is a separate consumable at about 50,000 pages. Neither is hidden — both are listed on the page — but they matter more in daily use than they look on a spec sheet. I have kept it, for one reason: About 1 cent a page on reload kits. That still outweighs the rest, but only just.

After a few months
Had this a full season now, so this is not an unboxing opinion. No cartridge chip, so refilling is designed in rather than tolerated. Still mildly irritated by one thing: Mono only. Known trade-off rather than a fault, though, and I would buy it again.

Does the one thing I bought it for
About 1 cent a page on reload kits. That was the whole reason I picked this over the cheaper options, and it is exactly as described. Also worth mentioning: No cartridge chip, so refilling is designed in rather than tolerated. No regrets after most of a year.
