Editorial verdict
Grounded in published specifications
Summary verdict: Evaporative cooling costs about a tenth of what an air conditioner costs to run, and the reason is that it does not remove heat -- it converts sensible heat into humidity. That is why the only specification that matters is your climate. In dry north Indian heat this is genuinely effective; in coastal humidity it adds moisture to air that is already saturated and barely cools at all.
Who should buy this
Anyone in dry inland heat wanting cooling at roughly a tenth of an air conditioner's running cost.
Who should avoid this
Anyone in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata or any coastal humidity -- evaporative cooling does not work in damp air.

Read the fit note, and it was me
The page describes who this is for, and it described me: Anyone in dry inland heat wanting cooling at roughly a tenth of an air conditioner's running cost. On that basis it has been the right call. 185 W, roughly a tenth of an air conditioner's consumption.

Happy with it, but go in informed
185 W, roughly a tenth of an air conditioner's consumption. The one thing to know before ordering: Ineffective in humid coastal climates, which is most of southern and eastern India. To be fair that is written on the product page. I skimmed past it and had to rearrange things afterwards.

Not the product’s fault, but be warned
Genuinely my own fault. Posting so somebody else does not repeat it. The listing says who should avoid this: Anyone in Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata or any coastal humidity — evaporative cooling does not work in damp air. That was my situation and I ordered anyway. It does what it says on the page — it just was not the thing I needed.

- What a geyser actually costs to run per month in IndiaA 25-litre storage geyser costs roughly Rs530 a month for a family of four. Around Rs145 of that is standing loss — energy spent keeping stored water hot while nobody uses it — which is the figure no listing publishes and the one you can eliminate.Covers this department7 min read
