Direct answer: is the Philips GC1905 1440W Non-Stick Soleplate Steam Iron right for you?
1440 W is the specification that decides how quickly it recovers heat after a burst of steam, and at this price it is generous -- cheaper irons sit at 1000 W and stall on thick cotton.

Editorial verdict
Grounded in published specifications
Summary verdict: 1440 W is the specification that decides how quickly it recovers heat after a burst of steam, and at this price it is generous -- cheaper irons sit at 1000 W and stall on thick cotton. The omission worth knowing is anti-drip: at low temperature settings water can spot the fabric, so it is not the iron for silk or synthetics.

Happy with it, but go in informed
1440 W recovers heat quickly on thick cotton. The one thing to know before ordering: No anti-drip valve, so low-temperature settings can spot fabric. To be fair that is written on the product page. I skimmed past it and had to rearrange things afterwards.

Posting after real use, not unboxing
Had this six weeks now, so this is not an unboxing opinion. 17 g per minute continuous steam with a 90 g boost. Still mildly irritated by one thing: No anti-drip valve, so low-temperature settings can spot fabric. Known trade-off rather than a fault, though, and I would buy it again.

Read the fit note, and it was me
The page describes who this is for, and it described me: Anyone ironing cotton and linen regularly who wants quick heat recovery. On that basis it has been the right call. 1440 W recovers heat quickly on thick cotton.

Listing was accurate, which is rarer than it should be
1440 W recovers heat quickly on thick cotton. That was the whole reason I picked this over the cheaper options, and it is exactly as described. Also worth mentioning: 17 g per minute continuous steam with a 90 g boost. No regrets after three months.

Not the product’s fault, but be warned
Genuinely my own fault. Posting so somebody else does not repeat it. The listing says who should avoid this: Anyone ironing a lot of silk or synthetics — the missing anti-drip valve will mark them. That was my situation and I ordered anyway. It does what it says on the page — it just was not the thing I needed.
