Editorial verdict
Grounded in published specifications
Summary verdict: The USB port contains no battery. It is a short cable from the outside of the bag to an inside pocket, so a backpack sold as a USB charging backpack charges nothing at all -- you supply the power bank and the port saves you threading a cable out. That is genuinely convenient and it is not what the name implies. The ScanSmart compartment is likewise a US TSA feature that Indian security does not use.
Who should buy this
Anyone who already carries a power bank and wants to charge without opening the bag.
Who should avoid this
Anyone expecting the bag to hold or supply charge itself, which it cannot.

Right product for the right person
The page describes who this is for, and it described me: Anyone who already carries a power bank and wants to charge without opening the bag. On that basis it has been the right call. Pass-through port genuinely saves opening the bag to charge.

Happy with it, but go in informed
Pass-through port genuinely saves opening the bag to charge. The one thing to know before ordering: The USB port has no battery — you supply the power bank. To be fair that is written on the product page. I skimmed past it and had to rearrange things afterwards.

Does the one thing I bought it for
Pass-through port genuinely saves opening the bag to charge. That was the whole reason I picked this over the cheaper options, and it is exactly as described. Also worth mentioning: Ballistic polyester resists abrasion well. No regrets after most of a year.

Not the product’s fault, but be warned
Genuinely my own fault. Posting so somebody else does not repeat it. The listing says who should avoid this: Anyone expecting the bag to hold or supply charge itself, which it cannot. That was my situation and I ordered anyway. It does what it says on the page — it just was not the thing I needed.

Holding up so far
Had this a full season now, so this is not an unboxing opinion. Ballistic polyester resists abrasion well. Still mildly irritated by one thing: The USB port has no battery — you supply the power bank. Known trade-off rather than a fault, though, and I would buy it again.
