Editorial verdict

Grounded in published specifications

Summary verdict: 575 square inches is the total of both racks, and the lower rack is the only one with usable heat for searing -- plan on about 400 square inches of real cooking area. A pellet grill is a convection oven that burns wood, so it holds temperature far better than charcoal and never gets hot enough for a proper sear without the optional cast-iron insert. It needs a 120 V outlet to run the auger and fan, which rules out unpowered sites and makes an extension cord part of the setup.

Who should buy this

Anyone who wants set-and-forget smoking with real wood rather than gas.

Who should avoid this

Steak-first cooks chasing a hard sear, and anyone without power at the cooking spot.

Key strengths

  • Holds a set temperature within about 15 degrees F
  • WiFIRE app control for monitoring without standing over it
  • Burns hardwood pellets rather than gas or briquettes

Limitations

  • Needs a 120 V outlet to run at all
  • Maximum around 450 degrees F, below a proper searing heat
  • The 575 sq in figure counts a warming rack with limited usable heat

Right product for the right person

The page describes who this is for, and it described me: Anyone who wants set-and-forget smoking with real wood rather than gas. On that basis it has been the right call. Holds a set temperature within about 15 degrees F.

Three stars, and here is exactly why

Leading with the problem, because it is what I would have wanted to read: Needs a 120 V outlet to run at all. Maximum around 450 degrees F, below a proper searing heat. Neither is hidden — both are listed on the page — but they matter more in daily use than they look on a spec sheet. I have kept it, for one reason: Holds a set temperature within about 15 degrees F. That still outweighs the rest, but only just.

Bought it on the numbers, and the numbers were right

I compared four of these on paper before ordering, so the line I actually checked was "Temperature range". The page says 180 to 450 degrees F, and that is what turned up. WiFIRE app control for monitoring without standing over it.

Posting after real use, not unboxing

Had this most of a year now, so this is not an unboxing opinion. WiFIRE app control for monitoring without standing over it. Still mildly irritated by one thing: Needs a 120 V outlet to run at all. Known trade-off rather than a fault, though, and I would buy it again.
