Editorial verdict
Grounded in published specifications
Summary verdict: The write figure worth planning around is not 1000 MB/s but what happens after the cache fills: on a sustained multi-hundred-gigabyte transfer it settles closer to 600 MB/s. That is still fast, and it is normal for every consumer SSD, but it is the difference between the number on the box and the time an actual video offload takes. IP65 and a 3 metre drop rating are genuine field durability.
Who should buy this
Anyone offloading video or photos in the field who needs the drive to survive being dropped.
Who should avoid this
Anyone who needs sustained 1000 MB/s writes for hours -- no consumer SSD holds that.
Key strengths
- IP65 and a 3 metre drop rating, unusual for a portable SSD
- AES 256-bit hardware encryption

Limitations
- Sustained writes settle around 600 MB/s after the cache fills
- USB 3.2 Gen 2 rather than the faster Gen 2x2 or Thunderbolt
- The rubberised shell attracts dust and lint

Does the one thing I bought it for
IP65 and a 3 metre drop rating, unusual for a portable SSD. That was the whole reason I picked this over the cheaper options, and it is exactly as described. Also worth mentioning: AES 256-bit hardware encryption. Nothing has surprised me in most of a year.

Not the product’s fault, but be warned
Genuinely my own fault. Posting so somebody else does not repeat it. The listing says who should avoid this: Anyone who needs sustained 1000 MB/s writes for hours — no consumer SSD holds that. That was my situation and I ordered anyway. It does what it says on the page — it just was not the thing I needed.

Holding up so far
Had this a full season now, so this is not an unboxing opinion. AES 256-bit hardware encryption. Still mildly irritated by one thing: Sustained writes settle around 600 MB/s after the cache fills. Known trade-off rather than a fault, though, and I would buy it again.

Bought it on the numbers, and the numbers were right
I compared four of these on paper before ordering, so the line I actually checked was "Cache behaviour". The page says The advertised write speed holds for the first several tens of gigabytes, then drops — this is normal and rarely stated, and that is what turned up. IP65 and a 3 metre drop rating, unusual for a portable SSD.

Happy with it, but go in informed
IP65 and a 3 metre drop rating, unusual for a portable SSD. The one thing to know before ordering: Sustained writes settle around 600 MB/s after the cache fills. To be fair that is written on the product page. I skimmed past it and had to rearrange things afterwards.
