Direct answer: is the Logitech C920 HD Pro Webcam 1080p (960-000764) right for you?
Still the sensible default after a decade, and the reason is the glass lens rather than the resolution -- most cheaper 1080p webcams use plastic optics that soften the image far more than the sensor does.

Editorial verdict
Grounded in published specifications
Summary verdict: Still the sensible default after a decade, and the reason is the glass lens rather than the resolution -- most cheaper 1080p webcams use plastic optics that soften the image far more than the sensor does. What it will not do is fix a dark room: the low-light handling is software brightening of a small sensor, so grain is the outcome. Good lighting matters more than any webcam upgrade.

Right product for the right person
The page describes who this is for, and it described me: Anyone on frequent video calls who wants reliable, driver-free 1080p. On that basis it has been the right call. Glass optics, not plastic, which is most of the image quality.

Be ready for one thing — 1080p at 30 fps only
Leading with the problem, because it is what I would have wanted to read: 1080p at 30 fps only — no 4K, no 60 fps. Small sensor, so low light stays grainy whatever the software does. Neither is hidden — both are listed on the page — but they matter more in daily use than they look on a spec sheet. I have kept it, for one reason: Glass optics, not plastic, which is most of the image quality. That still outweighs the rest, but only just.

Posting after real use, not unboxing
Had this three months now, so this is not an unboxing opinion. UVC compliant, so it works with no driver on any operating system. Still mildly irritated by one thing: 1080p at 30 fps only — no 4K, no 60 fps. Known trade-off rather than a fault, though, and I would buy it again.
