Direct answer: is the Moleskine Classic Leather Executive Notebook Hard Cover right for you?

Editorial verdict
Grounded in published specifications
Summary verdict: Around 70 GSM is the number behind Moleskine's most persistent complaint, and it is a specification rather than a defect: at that weight fountain and wet gel ink bleed through, so the reverse of a written page is generally unusable. For ballpoint and pencil it is entirely fine. If you write with a fountain pen, the Rhodia in this department is 90 GSM, costs less, and does not bleed.

Good, with one thing to plan for
240 pages, more than most hardcover notebooks. The one thing to know before ordering: About 70 GSM, so fountain and wet gel ink bleed through. To be fair that is written on the product page. I skimmed past it and had to rearrange things afterwards.

Read the fit note, and it was me
The page describes who this is for, and it described me: Ballpoint and pencil writers who want the build quality and the extras. On that basis it has been the right call. 240 pages, more than most hardcover notebooks.

Not the product’s fault, but be warned
Genuinely my own fault. Posting so somebody else does not repeat it. The listing says who should avoid this: Fountain pen users — buy the 90 GSM Rhodia instead, which also costs less. That was my situation and I ordered anyway. It does what it says on the page — it just was not the thing I needed.
