Editorial verdict
Grounded in published specifications
Summary verdict: Whiteboard surfaces come in three tiers and nobody explains them at the point of sale: melamine is cheapest and ghosts within months, painted steel ghosts over years, and porcelain enamel does not ghost at all and costs several times more. This is the middle tier, and it is magnetic where melamine is not. Ghosting is a surface property rather than a cleaning failure.

Specs match the listing
I compared four of these on paper before ordering, so the line I actually checked was "Surface". The page says Painted steel, and that is what turned up. Magnetic, which melamine boards are not.

Not the product’s fault, but be warned
Genuinely my own fault. Posting so somebody else does not repeat it. The listing says who should avoid this: Anyone leaving writing up for weeks at a time — that ghosts any painted surface. That was my situation and I ordered anyway. It does what it says on the page — it just was not the thing I needed.

After a few months
Had this a couple of weeks now, so this is not an unboxing opinion. Painted steel ghosts over years rather than months. Still mildly irritated by one thing: Will ghost eventually — only porcelain enamel does not. Known trade-off rather than a fault, though, and I would buy it again.

Good, with one thing to plan for
Magnetic, which melamine boards are not. The one thing to know before ordering: Will ghost eventually — only porcelain enamel does not. To be fair that is written on the product page. I skimmed past it and had to rearrange things afterwards.
