Editorial verdict
Grounded in published specifications
Summary verdict: Leak-proof means the outer lid seals against a school bag, not that the five compartments seal against each other -- a runny sabzi will still travel between them. That distinction is where most disappointed reviews come from. What it does well is the latch: a five year old can open and close it unaided, which is the actual test of a children's lunch box.
Who should buy this
Parents of children roughly 3 to 7 packing dry or semi-dry portions.
Who should avoid this
Anyone packing gravy dishes and expecting compartments to stay separate.

Wrong product for my situation
Genuinely my own fault. Posting so somebody else does not repeat it. The listing says who should avoid this: Anyone packing gravy dishes and expecting compartments to stay separate. That was my situation and I ordered anyway. It does what it says on the page — it just was not the thing I needed.

Posting after real use, not unboxing
Had this a couple of weeks now, so this is not an unboxing opinion. Outer seal keeps the bag dry even if the box tips. Still mildly irritated by one thing: Compartments do not seal against each other, so gravies mix. Known trade-off rather than a fault, though, and I would buy it again.

Right product for the right person
The page describes who this is for, and it described me: Parents of children roughly 3 to 7 packing dry or semi-dry portions. On that basis it has been the right call. Latch is genuinely operable by a small child.
Rakhi T.Sample1 found this helpful - 3 out of 5 stars, in a sample review of Bentgo Kids Leak-Proof 5-Compartment Bento Box
Three stars, and here is exactly why
Leading with the problem, because it is what I would have wanted to read: Compartments do not seal against each other, so gravies mix. 950 ml across five compartments is small for a child over about seven. Neither is hidden — both are listed on the page — but they matter more in daily use than they look on a spec sheet. I have kept it, for one reason: Latch is genuinely operable by a small child. That still outweighs the rest, but only just.
