In stock

Direct answer: is the Viair 88P Portable Automatic Tyre Inflator Compressor right for you?
Duty cycle is the specification that decides whether a portable compressor lasts a year or a decade, and almost no listing prints it: about 25 minutes at 30 PSI, then it needs to cool.

Editorial verdict
Grounded in published specifications
Summary verdict: Duty cycle is the specification that decides whether a portable compressor lasts a year or a decade, and almost no listing prints it: about 25 minutes at 30 PSI, then it needs to cool. Inflating four tyres from flat in one go can exceed that and burn the motor. The other practical detail is that it connects directly to the battery with clips, because a cigarette lighter socket cannot supply the current it draws.
Who should buy this
Anyone topping up car tyres who will respect the cooling interval.
Who should avoid this
Anyone inflating truck or large SUV tyres from flat -- that needs the larger 400P.
Key strengths
- Auto shut-off at a preset pressure, so it cannot over-inflate
- Direct battery connection supplies the current a socket cannot
- 120 PSI maximum, well beyond any car tyre
Limitations
- About 25 minutes of duty cycle before it must cool
- Cannot run from a cigarette lighter socket
- 3.9 kg and bulky for a boot

No notes
Auto shut-off at a preset pressure, so it cannot over-inflate. That was the whole reason I picked this over the cheaper options, and it is exactly as described. Also worth mentioning: Direct battery connection supplies the current a socket cannot. No regrets after a full season.

Holding up so far
Had this a couple of weeks now, so this is not an unboxing opinion. Direct battery connection supplies the current a socket cannot. Still mildly irritated by one thing: About 25 minutes of duty cycle before it must cool. Known trade-off rather than a fault, though, and I would buy it again.

Three stars, and here is exactly why
Leading with the problem, because it is what I would have wanted to read: About 25 minutes of duty cycle before it must cool. Cannot run from a cigarette lighter socket. Neither is hidden — both are listed on the page — but they matter more in daily use than they look on a spec sheet. I have kept it, for one reason: Auto shut-off at a preset pressure, so it cannot over-inflate. That still outweighs the rest, but only just.
