Editorial verdict
Grounded in published specifications
Summary verdict: The head-to-toe 1:1 aspect ratio is genuinely better than the letterbox view of cheaper doorbells -- you see a parcel on the doorstep, not just the person's face. The cost structure is the thing to weigh: without a Ring subscription this records nothing at all, so the purchase price is a deposit on a recurring bill, and it is Alexa-only with no Google or Apple support.
Who should buy this
Anyone in the Alexa ecosystem who accepts a recurring subscription in exchange for the best-in-class doorbell view.

My mistake, but read the avoid note
Genuinely my own fault. Posting so somebody else does not repeat it. The listing says who should avoid this: Anyone on Google Home or Apple Home, and anyone unwilling to pay monthly to keep recordings. That was my situation and I ordered anyway. It does what it says on the page — it just was not the thing I needed.

No notes
1536 x 1536 head-to-toe view shows the doorstep, not just the visitor's face. That was the whole reason I picked this over the cheaper options, and it is exactly as described. Also worth mentioning: Battery or hardwired, so it fits homes with and without doorbell wiring. Been using it now for about a month.

Happy with it, but go in informed
1536 x 1536 head-to-toe view shows the doorstep, not just the visitor's face. The one thing to know before ordering: Records nothing without an active Ring subscription. To be fair that is written on the product page. I skimmed past it and had to rearrange things afterwards.

Bought it on the numbers, and the numbers were right
I compared four of these on paper before ordering, so the line I actually checked was "Subscription". The page says Ring Home required to record or review any footage, and that is what turned up. 1536 x 1536 head-to-toe view shows the doorstep, not just the visitor's face.
