Editorial verdict
Grounded in published specifications
Summary verdict: Bronze die against teflon die is the distinction that separates pasta that holds sauce from pasta that does not, and standard Barilla is teflon-die -- smooth, which is why the rigate ridges exist to compensate. The bigger lever is free: about ten grams of salt per litre of water is the single largest determinant of whether the pasta itself tastes of anything.

Happy with it, but go in informed
100 percent durum semolina, so it holds shape rather than going soft. The one thing to know before ordering: Teflon die gives a smooth surface that sauce clings to less well. To be fair that is written on the product page. I skimmed past it and had to rearrange things afterwards.

Holding up so far
Had this a couple of weeks now, so this is not an unboxing opinion. Ridges compensate partly for the smooth teflon-die surface. Still mildly irritated by one thing: Teflon die gives a smooth surface that sauce clings to less well. Known trade-off rather than a fault, though, and I would buy it again.

Read the fit note, and it was me
The page describes who this is for, and it described me: Anyone wanting reliable durum pasta that holds its shape at a low price. On that basis it has been the right call. 100 percent durum semolina, so it holds shape rather than going soft.

Wrong product for my situation
Genuinely my own fault. Posting so somebody else does not repeat it. The listing says who should avoid this: Anyone chasing maximum sauce adhesion — that needs bronze-die pasta. That was my situation and I ordered anyway. It does what it says on the page — it just was not the thing I needed.
