Direct answer: is the JanSport Right Pack Suede Leather Bottom Backpack (TYP7) right for you?
The load rule is the fact worth carrying away: a school bag should not exceed ten to fifteen percent of the child's body weight, which for a 30 kg child is three to four and a half kilograms -- fewer books than most school bags actually hold, and the commonest cause of childhood back pain.

Holding up so far
Had this about a month now, so this is not an unboxing opinion. Suede leather base is the part that normally wears through first. Still mildly irritated by one thing: No hip belt, so the entire load sits on the shoulders. Known trade-off rather than a fault, though, and I would buy it again.

Worth it for one thing — Lifetime warranty
Lifetime warranty, which JanSport genuinely honours. That was the whole reason I picked this over the cheaper options, and it is exactly as described. Also worth mentioning: Suede leather base is the part that normally wears through first. Been using it now for six weeks.

Fine, once I adjusted my expectations
Leading with the problem, because it is what I would have wanted to read: No hip belt, so the entire load sits on the shoulders. 31 litres invites over-packing beyond the safe load rule. Neither is hidden — both are listed on the page — but they matter more in daily use than they look on a spec sheet. I have kept it, for one reason: Lifetime warranty, which JanSport genuinely honours. That still outweighs the rest, but only just.

Not the product’s fault, but be warned
Genuinely my own fault. Posting so somebody else does not repeat it. The listing says who should avoid this: Younger children carrying heavy textbooks — a hip belt matters more than brand at that load. That was my situation and I ordered anyway. It does what it says on the page — it just was not the thing I needed.
